Chiringani mountain is 15 km from Blantyre, Malawi. There, Two Seeds — Mbewu Ziwiri in Chichewa, Duas Sementes in Portuguese — works with 6 villages where around 10,000 people live, surviving on family maize farming. They are very poor: many families live on less than US$1 a day.
We work together with more than 20 local Christian churches, in Bible studies and in different social actions for community development.
Two Seeds is affiliated with YWAM Blantyre, the YWAM base in the city of Blantyre.
Our story
The calling
Cléber and Débora Alves have served as YWAM missionaries since 1996. Before Malawi, they served in Brazil, in Mozambique (2005 to 2013) and in South Africa. In 2016 they arrived in Malawi.
In September 2017, I, Cléber, prayed with the map of Blantyre in my hand and asked God where He wanted me to bear fruit for the next 10 years. Then He showed me the village of Chimwanga, at the foot of Chiringani mountain!
Building
Together with the community, we have built more than 60 homes for elderly people, the first classrooms of a primary school and the foundation of a health post. We are also building the YWAM missionary base.
Local leadership
Today the leadership of the base is in transition to Malawian leaders, who already lead the school, the elderly care and the daily life of the base. Meet the team.
Calling
We believe that serving in missions while trying to be as integral as possible, touching the largest number of areas of a person’s life, is a very effective way to be fruitful in the Kingdom of God and in the communities where we serve.
For this reason, our YWAM service here on Chiringani mountain, in Blantyre, Malawi, is named Two Seeds: Faith & Works.
In addition to religious activities, we also run different social activities of assistance and community development.

Vision
Every day we are following the One who goes ahead of us, and because we follow Him, we are watching Him transform lives and influence an entire community with the values of His kingdom.
2 Corinthians 5:18 — The reconciling work of the Holy Spirit is complete when a person is reconciled with God, with God’s creation and with the people around them.
We work for the ministry of reconciliation to happen effectively here in Chiringani.
Consciousness
God does not need us, but He graciously allows us to take part in the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Chiringani community. That is a privilege for us.
I sometimes wonder: are we the missionaries in their lives, or are they the missionaries in ours?
